UAAP Chess report after two rounds

Before it enforced the Papal break, the UAAP conducted two rounds of its chess tournament at the Henry Sy building inside the La Salle campus at Taft Avenue.

The men's division sees Adamson and NU share top billing with six points out of a possible eight.

Season 76's runners-up Falcons secured a 2.5-1.5 win over UST to open their campaign, then followed that up with a 3.5-0.5 blowout of UP.

As for last year's Rookie of the Year Austin Literatus and his Bulldogs, they downed Ateneo and then defending champions FEU with identical 3-1 scorelines.

UST is in solo third place, a half-point behind at 5.5.

Meanwhile, FEU has solo leadership on the women's division with 5.5 points, holding on to a half-point lead over La Salle.

WIM Janelle Mae Frayna defeated her fellow WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda was the highlight for the Lady Tamaraws's 2.5-1.5 win over their Green counterparts. They followed that up with a 3-1 win over UE.

The Lady Woodpushers of Taft bounced back from the loss with a 3.5-0.5 thrashing of NU.

In spite of that thrashing, the Lady Bulldogs are in joint third place with UST, each toting 4.5 points.

Pawn-pushing will resume on Wednesday with third round action.
