The Philippines captured the bronze medal in women's volleyball at the 17th ASEAN University Games over the weekend at Palembang, Indonesia.

Represented by the UAAP Season 76 champions Ateneo de Manila, the Lady Eagles defeated Malaysia for the second time in the competition, 25-11, 25-11 and 25-16, to net the country its first international women's volleyball medal since the 2005 SEA Games.

Alyssa Valdez led the charge with sixteen hits, while Ella de Jesus adding fourteen points. Michelle Morente and rookie Bea de Leon each contributed nine markers, as the defending UAAP titleholders needed just over an hour to dispatch their Malay opponents.

Ateneo would finish their campaign with a 3-2 slate.

The Philippines is currently ranked fifth in the medal tally with four gold medals, four silver medals, and five bronze medals.
